Final Project Process

The first images for my final project, in progress.
I am solving the problem by drawing inspiration for these images from a variety of sources, but I'm primarily focusing on how I feel emotionally and energetically in each pose.  The black floral/damask pattern in each of these images is the pattern on my mat.  As I practice that pattern become very psychologically important for me; it symbolizes that I'm in a safe place where it's time to relax and practice yoga.

Plans for final project

For my final project project, I want to do a series of images related to the experience of my yoga practice.  I am going to have a friend take pictures of me practicing yoga to use.  I will manipulate backgrounds that relate to my emotional and energetic experiences in specific poses.  I want to pick poses that I love doing and also poses that might tend to be a bit more uncomfortable and harder to stay in.  I will then get these images printed and bind them into a book.

I have zero experience with bookbinding, but I am interested in trying a technique called Japanese stab binding.

This is the basic Japanese stab bind, but there are more complicated variations.  I'm rather fond of this lotus, but that might be too much of a challenge.  I'll probably at least attempt it though.  I could see this looking really pretty with a color of thread that contrasts with the cover.  I'm not knowledgeable about bookbinding, but I like this technique because I can bind single sheets and it seems pretty adaptable.

Debating

Not sure which of these versions I like better.  One's a little brighter and flowery, and the other one's darker.  I'm kind of leaning to toward the darker one right now, but I was enjoying making something that was brighter and felt less serious.  But who know, at this rate, by the time we have our crit on this project I'll have several more versions.  Or maybe I'll do a diptych, since light & dark, day & night, life & death are all cycles too.  Also, maybe that would be about my work cycle.
