Debating

Not sure which of these versions I like better.  One's a little brighter and flowery, and the other one's darker.  I'm kind of leaning to toward the darker one right now, but I was enjoying making something that was brighter and felt less serious.  But who know, at this rate, by the time we have our crit on this project I'll have several more versions.  Or maybe I'll do a diptych, since light & dark, day & night, life & death are all cycles too.  Also, maybe that would be about my work cycle.

  2. I think they're both full of visual interest, I probably wouldn't make these two a diptych though because they're so similar compositionally that it might be less exciting than just seeing one of them by itself. If you really wanted to do a diptych though you could always play with asymmetry versus symmetry along with your other concepts since these are both pretty centered right now. It might add even more visual interest if everything was shifted to one side or the other. Especially because for me right now that pinecone/rose/circle thingy in the middle is what grabs my attention the most and my eye kind of gets stuck there.
P.S. I love the pattern you made out of the green plants.

  3. I prefer the second image. The first one is a little too bright for my eyes. I find myself trying to figure out what is in the middle and I like that about this piece, it can be whatever the viewer wants it to be. The top and the bottom are cohesive and it brings the image full circle, well done! Maybe make it more bright in the middle?

  4. I have to say I like the darker one better, the brighter one seems too busy. The contrasting of lights and darks makes it easer and more pleasing to view in the darker image. I like the fantasy concept you have, it makes me think of fairies. Maybe adding some sort of animal or insect life (or fairies) might make it seem more dynamic of a composition, because you never see nature without loads of bugs and stuff. Also it looks as though you are implying some sort of path or portal with the circular focus towards the center, this could be a fun concept to play along with, perhaps making it more abstracted and fantastical the closer you get to the center. I would add something to it other than plant life though. Maybe something random like a man-made artificial object in there just to see what happens!

  5. i like the second image because of the dark trees and moss. I also like how there is a continuous spiral through out the entire piece, which leads the eyes around the entirety of the image. The only thing a could think of changing is changing up the center piece. Maybe darkening it, or making it more vivid.

  6. This is great work. you are doing everything right. so a radical suggestion would be to introduce something unexpected into the middle of the image as a new focal point. I think what you have merits the attention, but also you have a wonderful structure to play off of, think hamlet walking onto a beautiful set ready to give his soliloquy. Instead of hamlet, what would it be? What are you trying to say? is there a central image that could convey it.
